Claiming territory is sometimes fun, sometimes necessary, but not always easy. It starts off simple--look in a board description, and if it lacks a "Claimed by: <insert name here>", then it's free to claim. Next, post a roleplay topic in which your character establishes the place as theirs--usually by scouting out the area, and in the case of Pokemon, placing scent-markers as well.
Here comes the tricky part. After this, a mod will reply with one of two things--a confirmation that this territory is now yours, or a challenge from an NPC currently living in that area. Defeat the NPC, and congratulations, you're a landowner.
Now about forming groups...They come in many different kinds--Squads and Teams and etc for humans, prides and pack and herds and clans and etc for Pokemon--but the chain of command is something you may feel free to design on your own. For a group to operate successfully, be sure to have a place of meeting--be it a territory or a den/house--and a topic in the designated board listing the members, their rank, and where the group may be found.
